LONG

The term "LONG" is to mean that you are expecting the price to move higher.
A typical use of the term in practice or placing an order would be something as follows:

I have been long 500 shares of XYZ since March 25.

On a breakout above $35, I have a stop set to go long 500 shares of XYZ.

If my stop is filled, I will have a long position in XYZ.

In contrast to going long, see going short to understand the other side of this concept.
