Line Chart

The LINE chart is simply a series of lines connecting the relative reference from the preceding time period to the present.  Generally this is a line that connects the closing price from one period of time, (typically a daily basis), to the closing price of the next.

It is not uncommon to see line charts plotting the open, high, low or average price of the trading period in addition to the more commonly used closing price.

Volume is usually plotted using a line chart, as are several other indicators such as open interest with commodities, or moving averages for all securities.

As with any charting or representation of information or data, the time involved could be representing a single minute or many years.  In general, most charts will be plotting the price movements of securities on a daily basis, but you must be careful NOT to assume anything when it comes to analyzing financial concerns as a mistake could be costly.
